We were separated into our groups and swapped mobile numbers, email addresses and Blackberry pins so we can keep in contact and chase up on each other when work is due and assigned Crew Roles.
- Crew Profiles
We all decided on some categories we would each answer about ourselves to form our crew profiles that Caleb and Michael would then put on our web page these categories include: Name, Age, Team role, Favorite Horror film, What kind of antagonist would I be, Choice of weapon and How in the end would I be killed.
- Production Team Name & Logo
We decided on 'Syfer' for our production team name as our own twist on 'Cypher' as like the use of a Cypher to decrypt and solve a mystery a good horror antagonist is surrounded in mystery. I'm going to design a logo and banner for our production team to put on the web page.
- Website
We set up a group email account '[email protected]' which we then used to create a Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages and then our web page, after setting up the web page we then added all the categories and sub categories we are going to organize our work in.
Caleb and Micheal then added the profiles for themselves and me to the Crew Profiles sub heading under the Development tab and will add Jeffery's when he's done his.
After emailing me there summer work i added all of our research to the Horror Genre sub heading under the Development Tag.

Caleb: Present
Michael: Present
Jeffery: Present
- Introductions
After catching Jeffrey up with what he missed last meeting, such as crew profile production team name, logo and website he filled out his crew profile and took in the briefing about the what his roles are, what is expected of him, what we want to achieve, how we want to achieve our goals and what does he feel he can offer to the group. He managed to quickly share his views and we made a start.
- Crew Profiles
At this point everyone but Jeffery had filled out a creative crew profile and today whilst we attended to other matters he filled that in.
- Team Photo
The team photos were taken today and we had a little bit of fun with the camera to give people viewing our site an insight as to the people behind the genius that is our media project. We wanted people to see our fun sides as well as our hard working sides so by having fun with the pictures taken we were captured in a natural state. The individual pictures we took were taken by Caleb and Michael, and when we took the individual pictures we made sure they show off our uniqueness by striking different, fun, funny and interesting poses, also the further editing should give the pictures a further unique sense to them. Caleb today started to alter the group picture for Facebook and will alter a few more and Michael and Chris may also alter the pictures.
The photos are currently with Caleb on his memory stick, and once we can get the photos on Photoshop we plan to edit them to make them unique and stand out from the rest. We plan to post some of our pictures on our sight that are as professional as possible and post our more entertaining snaps on the SYFER Facebook and Twitter pages.
- Summer Homework
Today Jeffery uploaded his summer homework and we all reviewed our summer homework and some people have things to add, such as Michael who completed a presentation which he must send to the SYFER email account so it can be uploaded.
- Textual Analysis
Today the group started to finish their textual analysis and started handing the work into Chris to upload onto the SYFER website
- Website
Today Chris further altered the SYFER website adding some more summer work and starting to upload the textual analysis of the team and made other further adjustments.
- Planning ideas
After we had completed everything on our checklist and we agreed to document some of our development stage as well as other important stages. We started talking about our ideas for a trailer so that people in the team could pitch their idea and we can review and then feedback the idea. Also after Jeffery and Michael discussed their knowledge on zombie films it became they were fulfilling their roles as the film buffs discussing the different types of zombies and Michael in detail goes over the plot of his trailer trying to explain the concept of what he is trying to achieve.

Team meeting 3: 17/09/2012
Christopher: Present
Caleb: Present Michael: Present Jeffery: Present - Presentation In today’s meeting we were reviewing our work so far, and making any corrections or adding on more bits to the overall design. Today we began preparing presentations to pitch our ideas. Michael and Caleb deciding to merge ideas they agreed to tackle their presentation today Jeffery and Chris contributed ideas to help finalise the different elements from both of the ideas we were all happy with and that we would be merging into a single idea. Jeffery and Chris also turned their film concepts into presentations that we will be pitching for the class to vote on. - To do The team discussed and agreed soon we are going to start video documentation and that we will make intro videos for people who visit our website telling viewers how to find what they are looking for and how to get to it. Also there is planning into making the website more visual as well as writing base, this could mean more mood boards generally about horror which can be tackled by everyone in the group as we all possess the sufficient Photoshop skills, add some clips, some slideshows/ presentations and pictures. We also uploaded our working logo onto our site which chris made after a group discussion were everyone agreed and with our teachers input the hand and the ‘S’ from the banner for the site combined would make a good memorable logo. We can also use this logo as profile images for our facebook, twitter and youtube pages. |

Team meeting 4: 28/09/2012
Christopher: Present
Caleb: Present
Michael: Present
Jeffery: Present
- Presentation
Today Chris presented his trailer idea (First Born), whilst Jeffery presented his trailer idea (Cry in the dark) and Michael & Caleb presented their trailer idea (Detention). These ideas were put to vote by the class to pick which they thought was the best and which they would like to see, and after feedback stating all ideas were good Detention presented by Caleb and Michael was selected.
The feedback that was given on that specific idea was generally very good with no negatives but rather questions on how certain things would be pulled off and these questions will be answered in the progress of making our trailer and in the trailer.
- Preparing for next stage
Today we assigned each other with roles for the next stage to stay 1 step ahead of the game. We agreed Michael will construct the mood board with input from the rest of the group, Chris shall construct the poster with input from the rest of the team, Caleb will be constructing the magazine with input from the rest of group and Jeffery will carry out the editing with input from Chris and some minor input from Michael and Caleb.
Also the key scenes were being clarified today, and we have agreed to do the location and setting together, but it would mainly be the responsibility of Michael as he controls the kill scenes throughout most of the trailer as well as being included in the merged concept and Caleb as his part of the merged concept was the main story line.
The audience research has not been assigned yet but it is most likely going to be a group shared task done by dividing the task into different sectors. For example Jeffery will cover what is expected to be seen in a zombie trailer and all the questions that would follow or come with that, whilst Chris covers people’s favorite zombie films and why they like it, Caleb will cover a section and Michael will cover a section.
- To do
Today we went over some things on the check list and we have achieved the majority of the things we planned to do, however we haven’t made a start on our videos, however the workload has been quite a lot and it will be done as soon as possible.
- Preparing for next stage
Today we assigned each other roles. Michael will do the mood board and treatment, Chris shall do the mock ups for the magazine and poster, Caleb will be dealing with audience research and Jeffery will do the story board and animation (pacing the trailer and adding/ taking out cuts). Also the key scenes were being clarified today, and we have agreed to do the location and setting together, but it would manly be the responsibility of Michael. We plan to start documenting our progress made very soon on video and taking photos.

- Audience Research
Today Caleb started covering the audience research on bbm, asking the target audience what they would like to see from our trailer through various different questions, and posting his results on the website.
- Treatment
Today Michael began finalizing the treatment with Jeffery's help on taking the pictures because of his photography skills, and began to help Jeffery with the skeletal structure for the anamatic as well as helping Caleb with the audience research.
- Skeleton structure
Today Jeffery made significant progress on the skeletal structure of the anamatic and ended up confering with the group on the ammount of shots that we had and how much time we had, showing us how much timee we could fill and with how many shots, so which ever space we had not filled with shots was essentially space that could be used for the montage bit.
- Mock Ups
Today Chris made a start on the hand drawn mock ups so he can conduct audience research on them along side Caleb and would like to make a start on the photoshop so he could do the same thing with those drafts.
- Rename
Today Chris notified Michael and Caleb that Detention is already a film so we are renaming our trailer L.A.B as it was our second best voted name after Detention. For copy wright purposes the name was recently changed but our old work has been completed under the name Detention, but hopefully this shouldn’t cause too much confusion.

- Treatment
Michael made final touches to the treatment on Friday and on Monday at the request of
the rest of the group hand printed red paint on the treatment to make it more visual. Michael has done various hand prints after having an idea to make the treatment more visual and keeping a bloody/ gory theme that is trying to be
given by the team, as well as the grimy dirty effects.
- Mood Board
Michael has finished the treatment so started to work with the mood boards and has made good progress with them and is just applying the final finishing touches to make them stand out and blend, as well as doing an annotation on them to show how they relate to the trailer. After these are done Michael will help with other areas such as audience research and the anamatic.
- Mock Ups
Chris from Friday to Monday has made very good progress working intensely on the mock up drawings and did backgrounds and layouts for the Photoshop versions which has been presented to the group and we have pitched our opinions to achieve the best layout possible
- Location
Today Michael showed Caleb the location of one of the scenes and told Caleb about the idea originating from Rec staircase scene, Caleb approved of the idea.
- Skeleton structure
For the skeletal structure Michael and Jeffery dcided which trailer to use as inspiration based on its pacing and how its montage is paced as well as the most important bit, the jump scare. A decision was made to use a trailer that started slow to narrate the story and then end up with a fast pace montage and a fast paced jump scare to keep viewers on edge.
